Our History…

Colson Hicks Eidson has been fortunate to practice law in South Florida for almost four decades. The firm has grown from two lawyers with a practice limited to personal injury, products liability, medical malpractice and aviation cases , to a firm of sixteen lawyers whose practice has expanded to include important cases in commercial litigation, white-collar crimes, and professional malpractice and international arbitration.

Thirty-five years ago, the firm's work seldom caused it to venture from South Florida. Today, the firm is handling matters in many states across the United States, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Throughout its history, Colson Hicks Eidson has achieved many firsts, such as: the first million-dollar malpractice award in the United States, the first Ford Pinto gas tank design case in the nation and serving as co-lead counsel in the largest mass fraud case in Florida history.

Much has happened and much is in progress that is noteworthy. The firm successfully handled an international arbitration in Santiago, Chile, resulting from an airplane crash off the coast of Peru. The firm was also co-counsel in the litigation that arose from the Cuban Air Force's murder of four members of the Brothers to the Rescue Organization. A federal court awarded over $175 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

Since 2000, the firm obtained a $100 million settlement in the grave desecration class action brought against Menorah Gardens cemetery; a $65.1 million verdict, which includes one of the largest punitive damages judgments in Florida history; a $60.9 million award, the largest amount ever awarded in a Federal Tort Claims Act case in the country; two verdicts for over $30 million; one verdict for over $20 million; a summary judgment for over $16 million; and many settlements for over $10 million.

In addition, the firm was the national co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs in the Ford/Firestone multi-district litigation and represented the Governor of Florida in redistricting litigation.
