Appellate Practice

The practice of law in general, and litigation in particular, has become increasingly more complex. New laws are passed every legislative session affecting personal injury and commercial litigation. New appellate decisions issue at an amazing pace. To complete the team necessary to address this ever-changing landscape, in 2000 the firm successfully recruited Marc Cooper, Maureen E. Lefebvre and Barbara A. Silverman  to form its appellate division.

Our appellate partners have been handling appeals in state and federal courts for twenty-five years. There are more than 500 reported decisions, state and federal, which bear their name, and hundreds of other unreported decisions. They have handled appeals involving virtually every kind of litigation -- personal injury, commercial, insurance coverage, domestic, criminal.

Over the years, the firm has recognized that the appellate services should not be limited to the appellate courts, but that those services could be extremely valuable to the trial lawyer and client in pretrial and trial proceedings. As a result, our appellate division regularly assists trial counsel in addressing complex legal issues as they arise during the course of litigation. They have served as co-counsel in personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, and in litigation arising out of federal receiverships.

Mr. Cooper, Ms. Lefebvre and Ms. Silverman assist our attorneys on complex litigation issues and will handle appeals for our litigation clients. They are also available to handle appeals for clients and attorneys in need of appellate counsel and will continue to assist lawyers outside the firm on litigation matters at the trial level.
