Long considered one of the innovators in the field of products liability law, the firm has been at the forefront of product safety. Mike Eidson, a partner in our firm and the President-Elect of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, has carried on that tradition. Mr. Eidson has also chaired ATLA's Products Liability and Aviation Sections, and was Chairman of the Institute for Injury Reduction. He has authored a textbook titled Defective Product: Evidence to Verdict , with a foreword by consumer advocate Ralph Nader.

In addition to winning the first Ford Pinto gas tank design case in the country, we also successfully handled numerous other design cases against Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Honda, and other automobile manufacturers. The cases have challenged gas tank design, rollover stability, seatbelt design, child restraint seats, door handles, emergency brakes, and a number of other automotive and vehicle components. Our efforts recently led to a nationwide recall by Chrysler Corporation of its minivan due to the defective design of door latches on certain models.

The firm has handled numerous cases against tire manufacturers, including claims against Bridgestone / Firestone for injuries and deaths resulting from defective tire design and manufacture. In November 2000, Mr. Eidson was appointed to serve as national lead counsel in the Ford-Firestone multi-district litigation in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Recently, Ervin Gonzalez obtained a $30.7 million jury verdict against the Ford Motor Company for the improper installation of the air valve on the right-rear tire of a 1999 Ford Econoline 15-passenger van that caused the van to crash and roll over, injuring a nine-year-old girl.
