And the Winner of the Mattie Belle Davis Award Is…

On June 9, personal injury lawyer Julie Braman Kane, a partner at our Florida law firm, was recognized by the Florida Association of Women Lawyers (FAWL) as the recipient of this year’s prestigious Mattie Belle Davis Award. This award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the organization, recognizes one female lawyer each year who has distinguished herself in the areas of personal achievement, perseverance and dedication. The award is named for Judge Mattie Belle Davis, who was a founding member of FAWL and a trailblazer for women in law. She was the only woman who was admitted to the Florida bar in 1936 – which was before women could even be jurors in the state. AAJ President-Elect From Colson Hicks Eidson

She has accomplished many great things in her 22-year career. She has been the first chair on multimillion dollar trials, won a case that changed healthcare safety measures, and she has won awards for her leadership and willingness to be a role model for others. Now Julie Braman Kane has been elected to the presidency of the American Association of Justice (AAJ). The AAJ, formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, has been working for plaintiff rights for over 65 years. The organization is fighting tort reform and forced arbitration, while protecting legal representation for clients who would normally not have access to the civil justice system.
