How Can Law Become More Diverse? Latoya Brown Answers With Community Outreach!

Becoming a lawyer can be incredibly difficult for children living in underprivileged school districts. They face the challenges of finding the right college, and finding the finances to pursue the higher education they need to earn a law degree. Most of all, many of these students don’t believe that its possible for them to pursue a career in law, but Latoya C. Brown—an associate litigation attorney here at Colson Hicks Eidson—wants these kids to know that this isn’t true. How Can Law Become More Diverse? Latoya Brown organized a moderated presentation and panel for the students of Miami Southridge Senior High School. The event exposed around 175 young and underprivileged students to the practice of law and the possibilities a career in law could hold for their futures. Colson Hicks Eidson Partner Julie Braman Kane Featured In Top 20 Women In Law

At a luncheon held in the JW Marriott Miami, 20 highly accomplished women were honored for their contributions to law. These honorees fight to defeat cancer, represent everybody including the poor and famous, and they are changing our country with verdicts that reveal the flaws in our system. Among the honorees featured in Top 20 Women In Law was Colson Hick Eidson’s very own Julie Braman Kane. Julie Braman Kane Featured In Top 20 Women In Law Julie has affected the entire country with her courtroom accomplishments, and has helped make the healthcare industry safer. In 2009, Julie helped win a $38 million verdict for a victim of medical malpractice and drug negligence. Colson Hicks Eidson’s Latoya Brown Voted to Dade County Bar Association’s Board of Directors

Colson Hicks Eidson associate Latoya Brown has distinguished herself as an exceptional litigator at our firm. She graduated at the top of her class, magna cum laude, from Florida International University (FIU) and worked as a legal intern for the Securities & Exchange Commission. Now Latoya has earned a special distinction in Miami-Dade County. The 2013 graduate of FIU has been voted as one of the Directors of Group 1 in the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA). She is now a part of the largest voluntary bar association in Florida and will be the voice of diversity in her new role with the association. First BRAVO Award Given to Colson Hicks Eidson Attorney

The issues faced by the Hispanic community can be difficult and confusing to outsiders. It was for this reason that the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association (BCHBA) was established. The BCHBA has strived to be the voice of an ever-expanding community that needs committed legal representation. It gathers sponsors and funds to help pay for the education of Hispanic law students, and to further these goals, the association created the BRAVO Awards. The BRAVO Awards recognize outstanding leaders from communities in the tri-county area, and each winner is chosen for their strong, diverse leadership in their respective counties. This year was the award’s inaugural ceremony, which happened at the 26th Anniversary Annual Installation & Scholarship Gala. Did a Hit and Run Lead to a 17-Car Accident in Miami?

There is no excuse for a driver fleeing the scene of a car accident, especially if he or she caused the wreck in the first place. Unfortunately, due to the actions of a hit-and-run driver, there was a 17-car pileup on the Palmetto Expressway earlier this month. According to WTVJ-TV, the incident took place in the northbound lanes of State Road 826 near the Northwest 122nd Street intersection and resulted in several victims suffering non-life threatening injuries and requiring hospitalization. In the wake of the massive wreck, a few drivers followed the hit-and-run driver’s vehicle as it fled the accident scene and called 911 to report it.
