Transit Bus Slams into Building in Miami, 25 Hurt

Earlier this year, Miami-Dade was the site of a transit bus-SUV collision that resulted in the bus crashing into a store and injuring 25 people, including several high school students. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the incident took place around 6:30 a.m. on a Thursday on Northwest 36th Street. There were reportedly 23 people on the bus at the time of the collision. Amongst the 23 people on the bus were students on their way to school at Miami Jackson Senior High. According to the Sentinel, the bus driver was the only person seriously injured in the crash, as he sustained non-life-threatening but extensive injuries. The rest of the injured, which included the daughter of the driver of the SUV, reportedly sustained minor injuries in the crash. They were described by a spokesperson for Miami Fire Rescue as “walking wounded” because their injuries mostly consisted of cuts and bruises. I…

School Bus Involved in Fatal Wreck After Running Stop Sign

Parents do not trust others with the safety and wellbeing of their children lightly, so when that trust is broken, they deserve answers and to see those at fault held accountable. A recent school bus accident in Lee County, Florida serves a reminder for just how easily parents’ trust can be broken. The crash happened in Fort Myers on a Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Royal Palm Avenue and Stella Street, according to WINK-TV. Bus Driver Takes Deal After Fatal Miami Airport Wreck

A 2010 study revealed that on average, in the U.S., about 63,000 buses are involved in accidents each year and of those, 14,000 people are injured and 325 are killed, according to journalistsresource.org. Recently, a former bus driver took a plea deal in the aftermath of a fatal accident in which he crashed a bus into an overhang at Miami International Airport, according to WBFS-TV. The accident happened in December of 2012 and resulted in three deaths and over a dozen injuries. The chartered bus was carrying a group from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is located in Sweetwater, to a religious conference in West Palm Beach. As a part of the plea deal, the bus driver will avoid jail time. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2003 to 2012, 174 school-age children were killed in school-transportation-related accidents. Bus Driver Killed in Tallahassee Bus Accident

According to WCTV TV, a school bus carrying a Florida high school track team crashed early in the morning of April 18. The crash happened at the intersection of Apalachee Parkway and Conner Boulevard in Tallahassee around 2:30 a.m. The 65-year-old bus driver was killed and four people were taken to the hospital for their injuries. Deputies say there were 33 people on the school bus, and they were on the way back from a track meet in Jacksonville when the crash occurred. “The gold Camry was traveling eastbound on Apalachee Parkway and turned north onto Conner Boulevard, striking the school bus.
