Will Miami Police Find This Hit And Run Driver?

A 27-year-old man on holiday from the United Kingdom was walking along 15th Street in Miami Beach when the unexpected happened. A silver BMW came speeding down the street and collided with him. After the crash, the driver of the vehicle jumped out of the car and fled on foot, and though authorities have leads, many are wondering if Miami police will find the hit and run driver. A police officer on patrol saw the speeding car and attempted a U-turn to catch the vehicle, but the car—which some say was travelling at 100mph—had already collided with the British tourist. Unfortunately, that tourist died on the scene, and now family and friends must mourn his loss from across the Atlantic Ocean. Were There Any Witnesses to the Hit and Run Crash? Three women, who were riding in the car at the time of the collision, were detained, but police are…

The Families of Fallen International Students Getting Compensation

Not long ago we brought you the story of two families that came to our state all the way from China seeking justice. Their children, both students at the University of Miami, had died in a pedestrian accident while returning to their apartments, and so their families came America so they could pursue a civil lawsuit against the neglectful driver. Now the families of these fallen international students are finally getting compensation. A South Florida jury has awarded almost $8.6 million to these families who have traveled such a long distance for justice. The jury declared that the driver of the Porsche that caused the accident was 95 percent to blame for what happened and should be held accountable for not paying attention while driving on the road. The families still felt that the amount awarded was too small to compensate for their loss, especially since that total amount will…

Can Foreigners Sue For Wrongful Death?

On the corner of Southwest 88th Street and 68th Court, a small group of mourners gathered. Back in 2013, two University of Miami students from China died on this corner after being struck by a car, and now their families are pursuing a civil lawsuit against the driver, but can foreigners sue for wrongful death in the U.S.? Was The Driver Punished? On October 16th of 2013, a woman driving a Porsche did not see the two students as they were walking to their off-campus apartments. The resulting crash claimed the young international students’ lives, but the driver was only found guilty of careless driving. Her license was suspended and she served no jail time for the accident, so now those students’ families have filed a civil lawsuit and have come to Florida in anticipation of the trial. “The only thing we want is fairness and justice,” says the father…

Plane Crash Victims’ Wives Open Wrongful Death Suits

In February, a Beech 1900 airplane crashed two miles outside of the Miami Executive Airport (also known as Tamiami Airport). The two crew members and two passengers did not survive the crash, and the questions that haunt this incident have led the victims’ families to seek justice with our firm. The plane was owned by a security company based in Venezuela, and it was on a maintenance trip to Florida. It was scheduled to refuel in the Turks and Caicos before returning to South America, and before the trip, two men were offered seats to fly back with the crew. Minutes after takeoff, one of the plane’s engines failed, and the crew requested to turn around and make an emergency landing. For reasons unknown, the plane approached the landing strip too low, collided with a utility pole and crashed. The two passengers, one a business owner and the other an…

Florida Teen Killed Trying to Stop Friend from Driving Drunk

Recently, a 19-year-old Florida man was killed while attempting to prevent a friend from driving drunk. According to WTVJ-TV, the Coconut Creek teen initially tried to block his friend from getting in the car. However, when that failed, the young man grabbed onto the vehicle itself in a bid to convince his friend not to drive drunk. Tragically, the teenager’s friend did not listen to him, taking off while the young man was still clinging to the rear spoiler of the vehicle. Before the teen could get loose from the spoiler, the vehicle ran through some bushes and slammed into a palm tree, which sent him flying to his death. After crashing into the tree, the car continued on, crossing a driveway and hitting three vehicles before coming to a stop. As of this report, the Coconut Creek police were still investigating the incident. If the police are able to…
