According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2008, 40 percent of all traffic fatalities in the U.S. occurred as a result of multiple-vehicle accidents.
While thankfully no one lost his or her life, a recent multicar wreck in Miami left four people injured and closed down the MacArthur Causeway for hours. According to WBFS-TV, the multiple-vehicle crash happened in the afternoon near the intersection of MacArthur Causeway and Fisher Island Ferry.
Although details about the accident were sparse, it reportedly involved two cars, both of which were traveling eastbound on the causeway. WBFS-TV reported that four people involved in the crash were injured. Two of the injury victims were transported to Jackson Memorial Trauma Center for treatment, and the two others were taken to Mt. Sinai.
It took authorities awhile to investigate and cleanup the accident scene, but they were able to reopen the causeway around 8:00 p.m. that evening. There had been no information released about the condition of the injury victims, and the Miami Beach Police Department was still investigating the wreck at the time of this report.
