Dean Colson Elected Chairman Of The Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission

Coral Gables (October 1, 2004) — The Law Firm of Colson Hicks Eidson today announced that managing partner Dean Colson was recently elected as Chairman of the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission.

As Chairman, Colson will oversee the Supreme Court JNC, which is responsible for providing names for the selection of justices on the Florida Supreme Court, names for vacancies in the Office of Statewide Prosecutor and names for the Office of Capital Collateral Regional Counsel.

“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to serve my profession, my state and my Governor,” said Colson, who was appointed to the commission by Governor Jeb Bush in 2002.

In addition to his legal practice, Colson holds leadership positions in several community organizations. Currently, he is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami and Chairman of the University’s Executive Committee. Past positions of note include member of Florida’s Commission on Ethics, past-President of the Orange Bowl Committee and Chairman of the 1995 Super Bowl XXIX Host Committee.

Colson has received several awards recognizing his contributions to the community. He was awarded the “Citizen of the Year” award by the Mayor of

Miami in 1995 and was named Sportsman of the Year by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Miami in 1996.
