Recent Investigations Reveal That Few Casinos in Las Vegas Have Hotel Surveillance

According to a recent investigation, many Las Vegas casinos do not have adequate surveillance in their establishments, an absence that can create an ideal environment for crime.

An investigation launched by The Associated Press found that 23 of the 27 major casinos in Las Vegas have no surveillance in their hallways or elevator landings. Only Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, the MGM Grand and Tropicana Las Vegas monitored the halls above the gambling floor via surveillance cameras.

“People have a false sense of safety when they go to a casino,” stated security consultant Fred Del Marva. “You think, ‘I’m going to Bellagio, they have 2,000 surveillance cameras, so I’m going to be safe.’ And you’re wrong. The level of security at the hotel level is zero.”

According to police statistics, hotel room burglaries account for a great majority of crimes in Las Vegas’ casinos, and have been on the rise in recent years, while burglaries have declined throughout the rest of the city. The absence of cameras not only encourages petty crimes but makes more serious crimes harder to prosecute.
