That figure that airlines under the Montreal Convention are strictly liable up to 113,000 special drawing rights, that doesn’t prevent you from proving your damages whatever they may be. It doesn’t matter if they far exceed that number, if you can prove it or if your lawyers can prove it for you, you’re able to recover those damages. What the treaty allows the airline to do is try to shift some of the blame to someone else as well if it was somebody else’s fault entirely and they weren’t negligent at all. These are very difficult defenses for airlines to raise in most of these cases, and we very rarely see them raised, but they are there.
