When it comes to bicycle and pedestrian accidents, South Florida has a bit of a reputation. Our area is known for having a higher than average occurrences of drunk driving crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists in Miami. This can be due to the fact that many people are driving home from bars and clubs when early morning exercisers are out. In this video, Colson Hicks Eidson’s partner and personal injury attorney Julie Braman Kane sheds some light on this issue.

Interestingly, we get a lot of drunk drivers in the early morning hours in Florida. The late night party scene intersects with the early morning exercise scene. And there’s a big problem on the Florida roads in the early mornings when we have drivers coming home from the bars and bicyclists or runners out, trying to get their morning run or bike in before the day starts. Those accidents are unfortunately becoming more and more prevalent and we are more involved with investigating them and trying to figure out if there’s a way to help the person who is on the bicycle or who was running. I would say that the city of Miami and the surrounding areas, because of the great areas we have outdoors, have a much greater likelihood of accidents between cars and bicycles or cars and motorcycles.
