What would you do if you found out a medical implant that you received could cause cancer? The last thing anybody wants to think about when they undergo a medical procedure is that the same procedure could cause them harm. However, Allergan textured breast implants have now been recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration. The nationally recognized firm Colson Hicks Eidson is now taking cases of women impacted by these products in Florida and throughout the United States. Call us today so we can get started on your case.

What is happening with Allergan breast implants?

Michelle Peterson has to find out from a coworker that Allergan Breast implants had been pulled off the market. She had no idea that the very implants she had inside of her had been recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She spent a weekend looking into the connection between her breast implants and cancer they had been known to cause.

“The longer I thought about it, I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m keeping these in my body,’” said Mrs. Peterson. She had already survived breast cancer once, and she did not want to go through battling another type of cancer.

The FDA has issued a recall for textured breast implants manufactured by Allergan. Their recall notice states, in part, that they were issuing the recall to protect consumers from “…the increased risk of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), associated with Allergan BIOCELL textured breast implants…”

BIA-ALCA is not breast cancer. Rather, it is a rare type of cancer found in the scar tissue and fluid near the breast implant. The FDA says that there have been hundreds of BIA-ALCL cases and that dozens have died due to cancer.

The FDA has said that the removal of these implants is not currently recommended for those who have them if they have no signs or symptoms of BIA-ALCL. However, this does not make many women, like Michelle Peterson, any less wary. Women who have Allergan textured breast implants should speak to their doctors as soon as possible, both for cancer screenings as well as their options moving forward.
